About Ranked Choice Voting (RCV)

With RCV, every voter gets one vote, but voters can rank the candidates in order of preference instead of being limited to only one candidate.

How Do I Vote?

You rank candidates in order of your preference on your ballot - that’s it! Voters can rank one, two, or three candidates. Your second or third choice will only be counted if your first choice (or subsequent) candidate is eliminated.

How Are Votes Counted?

On election night, first-choice selections are counted. If no candidate has more than 50% of the votes, the candidate with the fewest number of first-choice selections is eliminated. Voters who picked the eliminated candidate as their first choice have their second-choice selection counted instead. This process repeats until one candidate has a majority.
